Children’s Music Programs

We share God’s gift of music with our children in a variety of ways. Whether singing or playing an instrument, our children are instructed by music professionals who are committed to enriching the arts experience with a fun and engaging environment.

2018 – 2019 Children’s Music Rehearsal Schedule at a Glance

Joyful Noise (3 year olds – Pre-K) 9:25 – 9:45 a.m.

Joyful Noise gives preschoolers opportunities to sing, move, create, explore and imagine, sets the foundation for the choir programs beginning in kindergarten.

Location:  4-year-old classroom

Carol Choir (Grades K & 1) 9:10 – 9:45 a.m.

Kindergarten and first graders learn about basic musical concepts, movement and singing independently and with a group through activities and games, often with a Biblical theme. They sing on Children’s Sunday in Advent and Palm Sunday. They also perform the opening act during the Children’s Choir musical program in the spring.

Cantate Choir (Grades 2 & 3) 12:35 – 1:35 p.m.

Second and third graders build on their musical knowledge with basic part singing, movement, and music reading. They sing several times throughout the year for worship services and join the Counterpoint Choir to present the Biblically based spring Children’s Choir musical, which features ensemble singing, choreography, solos and speaking parts.

Counterpoint Choir (Grades 4 - 6) 12:35 – 1:35 p.m.

Older elementary children continue building upon musical concepts, including part singing, tone production and music reading. They are introduced to scripture- and hymn-based texts, and sing in worship services about once a month during the year. The highlight is the Biblically based spring Children’s Choir musical, which features ensemble singing, choreography, solos and speaking parts.

Orff Ensemble (Grades 2 & 3) 1:35 – 2:20 p.m.

The Orff approach combines instruments, movement, speech and singing into experiences where the children are “learning through doing”. The children use xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels, drums, triangles, finger cymbals and other percussion instruments as they weave their creative ideas into music. The Orff Ensemble plays in worship services several times throughout the year.

Steeple Ringers (Grades 4 - 6) 1:35 – 2:20 p.m.

In Steeple Ringers, children learn the basic techniques of handbell ringing and music reading as part of an instrumental ensemble.
