A Spiritual Formation Workshop
for Practical People
Saturday, February 20, 9AM to 4PM

How do you know God's will for your life?
Have you tried the “recommended” forms of prayer
and met only with frustration?
Has your current spiritual life hit a dry spot
or maybe even a serious drought?
Are you skeptical about spiritual practices
but willing to try an experiment?
If you answered yes to any of these questions or you just wonder what all the fuss about spirituality is all about, come Saturday, February 20 and learn some practical techniques to increase the depth of your spiritual life.
Spiritual retreat leader and Episcopal priest Fred Schmidt, author of the book What God Wants for Your Life (our selection for this year’s First Church Lenten Study) will introduce you to the spiritual practices that will show you how you can better recognize the difference between God’s will and your own, deepen your ability to hear God’s voice, and sharpen your powers of discernment. Rooting these practices in a compassionate and practical approach he calls “triage theology” (doing our best with the tools we have) Dr. Schmidt will tackle the issues that confront us every day, such as anxiety, fear in the face of decisions, and the role of faith in our lives.
During our afternoon session, you will have a chance to explore various spiritual practices, their benefits and challenges, and learn specific techniques that will enhance your spiritual growth. Experiment with several different practices led by Dr. Schmidt and FirstChurch members and staff. We want to help you find out what spiritual practices can help you discern what God wants for your life! (Please dress casually!)
