The Altar Guild is a dedicated
group of volunteers who manage the visual aspects of our worship
services. Routinely, they manage the seasonal paraments, minister’s
stoles, and flowers for Sunday worship services. For All-Saints
Sunday and Pentecost Sunday they display the "Cloud of Witnesses" banners from
the balcony’s edge. During Advent they decorate the church
with the Advent wreath, Chrismon trees, Chrismon banners, garlands,
candles, and poinsettias. On Good Friday the guild prepares our
worship space for the Tenebrae service by stripping all paraments,
flags, pulpit, altar cross and candles and placing three wooden
crosses draped in black fabric, a candelabra and Christ candle
in the front of the church. For Easter they place lilies along
the communion rail and throughout the church, display the Chrismon
banners and produce the traditional Easter banner procession.
Fourteen needlepoint kneelers for the Sanctuary communion rail were dedicated on Sunday, April 13, 2008 during 11:00 worship. The ceremony marked the culmination of the three year project and honored the twenty-six needlepointers from our congregation who stitched the designs handcrafted by artist Sheilah Oscher. The unique work of art incorporates both our color scheme and symbolic grapevine amidst a series of crosses and Christian symbols.
The Altar Guild is a very active “hands on” group
of individuals who have a powerful ministry in the life of this
great congregation. If you feel called to serve the church by helping
with the creation, care and preservation of the visual aspects
of our worship, please contact Chairperson, Cindy Booker, or Dana
Effler, Director of Music and Arts. They will be anxious to greet
you and give you more information about how you can become involved.
