What is this series about?




  • The relationship between God, nature, and humanity.

Why is this series relevant?
  • Christians, and particularly Methodists, are called to be stewards of the environment
  • There are a number of topics from which to choose
  • Topics can also be requested
  • Each topic discusses:
    • The “issue” or problem
    • Why it is a problem
    • Why we as a people of Christ and the Church should care
    • What is being done about the issue or problem
    • Practical actions and choices we can make to help solve the problem

What topics will be covered?
  • Topics will not have to be done in weekly sequence, giving classes flexibility
  • Suggested topics include:
    • Biblical based overview of discussion on relationship of man, God, and nature
    • Climate change
    • What “sustainability” is and why it is important
    • The importance of recycling
  • What happens when a class chooses a new topic?
    • 1s Eco Team will:
      • Develop a core curriculum as a basis for engaging a class
      • Create in depth class topics to meet the interest of class members
        • Electricity and the Environment
        • Taking Personal Responsibility:  Determining your Individual Carbon Foot Print

  • Change temp on your thermostats
  • Buy Energy Star rated appliances
  • Use electricity generated from Renewable Sources
  • Drive 65 mph or less
  • Carpool
  • Use public transportation
  • Buy fuel efficient vehicle
  • Don’t use chemical lawn products.  (Water and then fertilize)
  • Use “green” cleaners
  • Buy locally grown produce
  • Read “Environmental Tip of the Week” in the weekly bulletin for more
