Make plans to join us and invite a friend for a Virtual (Zoom) Community Gathering! The meeting is open to all who are interested.
“Caring for God’s Creation” is the topic of the next Virtual Community Gathering hosted by First Church Dallas United Methodist Women. In the Book of Genesis, we read the story of God creating the earth and humankind. God says humans are chosen to “care” for the earth and all that is in it. The program speakers will share personal stories about their experiences and work relating to climate change and offer ideas on how every person can contribute to a healthy earth. The speakers are:
Olinka Green is a Dallas native. She has Climate Reality training from The Alliance for Climate Protection d/b/a The Climate Reality Project organization. Ms. Green speaks passionately on the subject. She has been involved in getting the EPA to communicate better with the community regarding the Lane Plating Superfund site. For the Texas Poor People’s Campaign, in November 2019, Ms. Green organized the Ecological Devastation bus tour of Dallas. She was recognized with the Memnozyne Greensource DFW Environmental Justice award in 2020.
Dick and Chris Guldi are longtime members of the Sierra Club and of First UMC Richardson. They see anti-climate-change work as a calling, a way of fulfilling their church’s membership vows to “resist evil in whatever form it presents itself.” In 2012, they became especially active in conservation and in 2016 chaired the Conservation Committee of the Dallas Sierra Club. They received the Memnozyne Greensource DFW Volunteer award in 2016.
Glen Suhren is a retired electr-optics engineer and has been involved in climate change issues for the past 10 years. He is an active member of the Sierra Club, North Texas Renewal Energy group, and Citizens Climate Lobby (CCL). Mr. Suhren is a member of First UMC Dallas where he and his wife, Connie, are active in the Covenant Class. He originally centered his interest on the science of climate change, but now his focus is more on bonding’s and solutions.
