Children’s Music Programs

We share God’s gift of music with our children in a variety of ways. Whether singing or playing an instrument, our children are instructed by music educators who are committed to providing a foundational sacred music education for our children in an engaging, safe and nurturing environment.

Carol Choir (Grades K & 1) 9:00 – 9:45 a.m.

Kindergarten and first graders learn about basic musical concepts, movement and singing independently and with a group through activities and games, often with a Biblical theme. They sing on Children’s Sunday in Advent and Palm Sunday. They also perform the opening act during the Children’s Choir musical program in the spring.

Director: Cathleen Barnette
Rehearsal: Sunday, 9:00 – 9:45 a.m.
Location: Room 214, Crossroads Building

Cantate Choir (Grades 2 & 3) 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

Second and third graders build on their musical knowledge with basic part singing, movement, and music reading.  They sing several times throughout the year for worship services and join the Counterpoint Choir to present the Biblically based spring Children’s Choir musical, which features ensemble singing, choreography, solos and speaking parts.

Director:  Melissa Graham
Rehearsal: Sunday, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.
Location: Room 212, Crossroads Building

Counterpoint Choir (Grades 4 - 6) 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

Director:  Linda McClinchie
Rehearsal: Sunday, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.
Location: Room 214, Crossroads Building

Building upon the musical concepts they’ve previously learned, the 4th – 6th grade singers will have an opportunity to advance their proficiency in the areas of healthy tone production, music reading, and part singing.  They will also engage in weekly hymn study learning about composers of the music, writers of the texts, and some interesting stories about the inspiration behind they hymns.  The climax of the choir year is the spring children’s choir musical.  Through music, drama, costumes and dance, the children will bring stories of the Bible to life while gaining confidence in their own performance skills and learning the value of teamwork!

Orff Ensemble (Grades 2-3) 1:30 - 2:15 p.m.

The Orff approach combines instruments, movement, speech and singing into experiences where the children are “learning through doing.”  The children use xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels, drums, triangles, finger cymbals and other percussion instruments as they weave their creative ideas into music.  The Orff Ensemble plays in worship services several times through the year.

Director: Melissa Graham
Rehearsal: Sunday 1:30 – 2:15 p.m.
Location: Room 212
