That day started just like any other. My 2 year old was in the kitchen eating breakfast when there was a knock at the door. I opened the door to approximately 10 FBI agents wearing bullet proof vests and weapons drawn. They had come to arrest my husband. Thus began a dark and difficult season of life, during which I lost my marriage, my home, my friends, all my savings, my career, became a single mom, and suffered depression that caused me to sleep up to 20 hours a day. Every time I entered a room, there were whispers of “what did she know? How could she not know?”

Approximately 1 year after my husband’s arrest, God gave me the courage to attend Kairos Outside North Texas weekend #27. I met a diverse group of women, all united by our love for our Lord. Many of these women also had a loved one incarcerated, but they were surviving, even thriving, and willing to share their wisdom, experiences, love and support with me… a total stranger. Not one person probed for details, judged me or blamed me. No one asked me if I still loved him or if I allowed him to see my son. I had finally found a safe place among mighty warriors of prayer and hope. Kairos Outside community pulled me from my depression and helped me regain control of my life.

The Kairos Outside community is made up mostly of women who have a loved one in jail and who struggle to financially provide for their families. These women pay for all the household bills, expensive collect phone calls and trips to see their loved ones. We are grateful for the financial assistance we receive from the Rise Fund, which helps guests attend these KO weekends and experience love, healing and hope. Please reach out to us if you know of a woman, at least 21 years of age, who may benefit from being a guest on a KO weekend or if you feel called to get involved in this ministry.

The Rise Fund is the missional giving arm of our church. 100% of these dollars go to direct outreach and advocacy in our community and around the globe. We give thanks that as of May 30, we have received $56,623, almost 40% of our goal. Your generosity truly makes a difference. Click here to make a donation. Thank you!
