Rise: Mission Now
September 27, 2017
The Rise Fund was instituted to collect funds throughout the year for annual distribution to partner non-profit agencies. But when a tornado tore through the town of Moore, OK, the Rise Fund committee began exploring ways to respond to unforeseen emergencies and MissionNow was born.
Mission Now collects fund for distribution by the FUMC Mission and Outreach committee to meet unanticipated needs. One month ago, Hurricane Harvey hit the Texas coast, and MissionNow responded immediately by renting a truck to receive and distribute donations. MissionNow also responded to our city when a tornado struck in Rowlett and when officers were killed in the line of duty.
Our MissionNow ministry will continue on Saturday, Oct. 7, 9:30-11:30 am. You are invited to help assemble UMCOR flood bucket cleaning kits and health kits that contain supplies for hurricane victims. The United Methodist Committee on Relief collects hygiene, school, and cleaning supplies for distribution within the United States which help sustain everyday life for people who lack essential supplies after a disaster strikes. All ages are welcome – friends and neighbors too! Please sign up to bring some supplies and/or let us know that you are coming.
We have bold dreams about what our church can do to engage the world. On behalf of the Rise Fund Committee, thank you for all who have contributed! We want to thank you and have permission to use your name publicly. Please stop by the table in the atrium to give us permission. As of Sept 26, we have raised $50,017 toward our goal of $153,600, or about 33%. The Rise Committee asks you to partner with us and help support our primary funding source for Mission and Advocacy and the investment in our community. Donate now, make a pledge, create monthly recurring payments or leave a legacy. Give online or contact Wendy Westberg (firstname.lastname@example.org). We encourage gifts of ALL sizes!
