Rise Partnership with Project Transformation
September 4, 2017
This summer, Project Transformation North Texas hired 124 college-aged young adults known as “PT Corps Members” to serve in our 2017 Summer Program. They represented 63 colleges and universities and 17 different states. 55 served with us previously; and, perhaps most exciting, 18 of these exceptional young people participated in Project Transformation as children and returned to serve with the program as college-enrolled young adults this summer.
With the support of the FUMC Dallas Rise Fund, Project Transformation provides a hands-on mission experience for young adults who are passionate about exploring how God is calling them to serve, whether that be in ordained or lay ministry or other forms of community service. In addition to learning first-hand about the uphill battle facing children and families in low-income neighborhoods, the PT Corps Members spend time each week meeting with church and nonprofit leaders, discerning a vocational call to service and ministry. All of these experiences come together to create stories of transformation – sometimes changing the trajectory of our PT Corps Members’ lives forever as they discern God’s unique call for their lives.
The following quotes offer insight into the transformation many of our PT Corps Members experience during their summer of service:
“This summer is my second term with Project Transformation and the relationships I have made with the students and my fellow PT Corps Members have changed the way I live every moment of my life. As I prepare for my vocational career in youth ministry, I count Project Transformation as one of my most formative experiences.” – Ellen Gotelli
“Every day when the kids greet me with a smile and a hug, I know that I am making a difference. When the kids trust me enough to ask me to correct their spelling without fear of embarrassment, I know I am making a difference and growing a relationship with them. And while I am making a difference for these kids, in return they are making a difference for me. At Chapel Hill UMC, the kids do not let their differences define them, and this gives me hope for the future.” – Cady Barthe
