By gathering volunteers and donations, the Rise Fund maximizes FirstChurch’s impact on our partner agencies. And that unified impact is greater than it ever could be individually, as evidenced by our partnership with Rise recipient JJ Rhoads Elementary.
$7,000 + 150 volunteers = 3,500 hours of service
This combined effort helped facilitate teacher appreciation events, field trips, a petting zoo, washer and dryer, winter coats, uniforms, books, and more. But in true FirstChurch fashion, we do not just send money. We take it with us when we walk in partnership, chaperoning field trips, facilitating registration, collecting books, etc.
Our reading partners are the cornerstone of this partnership, donating an hour or more each week to tutor a student, notably raising reading levels and affirming their budding talents that often go neglected. In these moments of personal connection, we reflect God’s love, but the reflection is mutual. FirstChurch member and reading partner Jim Byrd can attest to that.
After losing Mary, I lost all purpose and identity and felt a huge void in my life. I kept hearing and reading I needed to reach out and begin re-involving myself in the world. What a total blessing being a reading partner has been for me. I love working with the kids and watching their pleasure in learning. The curriculum instructions and tips are excellent, effective, and easy to apply. I enjoy being part of such an important program for these children.
To all advocates of JJ Rhoads and the Rise Fund, thank you. Your financial support and presence has had a resounding impact, and we look forward to amplifying this ministry in the coming year. Whether you are called to give of your time or financial gifts, we are grateful.
