A little over three years ago, the Rise Fund was just a dream…
Our annual Easter letter called the “Resurrection Letter” and conversations with our members, partner agencies, and neighbors nurtured the idea of a Rise Fund that would cast a vision for a stronger, more compassionate Dallas. We began to listen and to respond to the Spirit’s stirring to be the church for the city.
Over the last three years, we have witnessed both qualitatively and quantitatively the impact Rise is making. John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, said, “Don’t send money; take it!” – And that is exactly what we have done:
We have read with children of Project Transformation.
We have built facilities for the Methodist Children’s Home of Costa Rica.
We have fed hungry people at Crossroads Community Services, nourishing these persons physically and spiritually.
We have shared breakfast and books with children at Dallas Bethlehem Center.
We have responded to our city in times of urgent need through MissionNOW.
We have built caring relationships with seasoned citizens of West Dallas through Wesley-Rankin Community Center.
We have advocated for students, parents, faculty and staff at Joseph J. Rhoads Elementary School through literacy tutoring, the arts, and field trips.
Since its inception, the Rise Fund has been capably led by Rev. Linda Roby. As she departs our staff next month, our Staff Parish Relations Committee invites you to make a gift to the Rise fund in honor of her leadership and ministry.
FirstChurch will continue to move forward, introducing our neighbors and partner agencies to the love of Jesus Christ. Through our unified giving efforts, we strive to support education ministries and end hunger in North Texas. Rise Committee members have invited us to dream with them about growing our Fund by 20% this year, and that would be a dream come true . . .
