Spiritual Retreat as Self Care
July 25, 2019
Summer is a great time to slow down, get away and take a break. Yet, for many of us, it’s hard to find time at any point to be still and take some time for ourselves. Today, Rev. JoNell Lindh invites us to consider a special retreat that just might be the act of self care we all need.
Me? Go on a Spiritual Retreat?
Wait…..Listen to what the Five Day Academy might offer your spirit. I have attended The Five Day Academy at the Prothro Methodist Retreat Center by Lake Texoma for many years as my annual spirit-filling time. For me, as an introverted 2 on the Enneagram, I treasure the silence of this retreat. I love it all. We have worship and communion every day and the presenters have never disappointed. I have now been serving on the leadership team for several years, and strongly urge you to prayerfully consider joining in.
The five days of retreat from the noise of the world is sponsored by the Upper Room, and is open to both men and women. You will enter into the Benedictine rhythm of worship every day: morning prayer; presentations by a renowned spiritual leader in the morning and afternoon; silence to chew on the teaching; free time; an evening meeting with a small group and silence after evening prayer until breakfast the next morning.
The Five Day Academy will be from February 2, 2020 – February 7, 2020. It is the perfect way to prepare your spirit for the Lenten season which follows shortly after the retreat. The two presenters this year are Loyd Allen and Grace Imathiu, who are both incredible Biblical story-teller-teachers.
Prayerfully consider coming to the lakeside to be filled by the Holy Spirit and to learn from the sound of silence and fellowship with kindred believers. Come with a yearning to grow in your relationship with God and an openness to how the indwelling of the Spirit might be just what you have been missing in your walk in Christ’s Way. The theme for this Academy is Thomas Merton and Christ Together at the Edge. Come and discover your true self. Learn more and enroll here; registration opens at the end of July. God bless you as you ponder.
