The Role We Play

Adrianna Rodriguez had been on staff for years before joining our membership a few months ago, citing the love and kindness she receives from our FirstChurch family among the reasons she felt called to join. “Members talk to me and show that they appreciate the work the maintenance staff does. It’s nice to know we aren’t invisible,” she said.
As we look forward to the pinnacle of our Holy Calendar, we hope that visitors will choose to worship with us. More than that, we hope that we can receive them with arms wide open and that their experience shows them the deep love of Christ, calling them to join us again.
Especially on Easter Sunday, we take great care in the hospitality we extend to all who join us. Our clergy and ushers do a wonderful job greeting everyone entering and leaving, and we hope that you, too, will take a moment this Sunday to greet an unfamiliar face sitting near you. He or she may be a first-time visitor or a long time parishioner you haven’t met yet. Either way, you will have shaped that person’s experience with a warm welcome.
Tip from the ushers: Put out your hand and say “Hello, I don’t believe we’ve met. My name is….”. If they are visiting, express that you are glad they’ve chosen to worship at FirstChurch for Easter and invite them back. If not, you have met a fellow parishioner!
More than anything else, the welcome that visitors do (or don’t) experience will decide whether they return. Thank you for helping us show and share God’s love this Sunday and every Sunday.
